FAQs: Thermostat Troubleshooting I installed my thermostat and there is nothing on the display. If you have nothing displayed on your thermostat then you are most likely not getting power to the thermostat. The first thing you have to do is ensure that the thermostat is properly mounted to the backplate. There are two tabs at the top of the thermostat that interconnect with the backplate, once you line those up, swing the thermostat down until the bottom tabs engage. If you are using an EPA-20 or EPA-60 make sure the power adapter is plugged in to a live power outlet. Also, double check that your wires are punched down in the correct order according to the color codes as documented. You should also make sure that the wires are fully punched down into the EPA-20/60. Once you have verified those connections, you should also check the wiring on the backplate assembly of the thermostat and make sure the connections are in the right order and secure, making good contact with the screw heads on the backplate. Back to top My thermostat display is working but I have no network link indication. This is a typical indicator of a connection problem with your Ethernet wiring. Troubleshoot this in the same method as you would connecting a pc to your network. Verify your Ethernet cabling using a pc when possible and ensure that you can obtain an IP address from your DHCP server. Back to top Why do I get a "Connection Refused" during a software upgrade? The most likely causes of a "Connection Refused" during a software upgrade are: - Wrong IP address of the thermostat
- Wrong Port number of the thermostat
- A firewall application running on your pc is blocking access to the thermostat
Back to top How do I perform a Factory Reset? A Factory Reset is a procedure that is used to erase all user configuration from the thermostat. This will set the thermostat back to factory defaults which means you will have to re-establish connectivity in the same method as when the unit was first installed. To perform a factory reset, do the following: - Power down the thermostat (remove from backplate or disconnect power to the thermostat)
- Hold down the center bottom button while restoring power and continue to hold the button down until the LCD displays characters.
- Release the button and the thermostat has now been reset to factory defaults.
Back to top Can I backup and restore my thermostat's configuration? Currently, you can backup and restore your configuration by using the Upgrade Utility. Whenever you run the upgrade procedure, your configuration at the time of the upgrade is saved on the pc that ran the utility. If you want to create a backup without upgrading your thermostat, select the Save Configuration option and the thermostat configuration will be saved to your hard drive. If you want to restore the configuration at some point in the future, just run the utility and select Restore Configuration. You will be provided a list of configuration files that are date and time stamped and also includes the IP address of the thermostat that the configuration was obtained from. Back to top Why is my thermostat's IP address 0.0.0.0? By far, the most common reason the thermostat does not have a valid IP address is because of improper wiring. Once the wiring is confirmed to be correct, you should verify that you have a functioning DHCP server on your network. The easiest way to test this is to use a laptop or other pc and see if it is able to get an IP address via DHCP. If you do not have a vaild DHCP server, there is a way to have the thermostat use a "fallback" address. The following method will work on NT series units running 2.5.x or great and on all TM series units. To view the thermostat's IP address, press next and navigate to Network Status and press select. When you are looking at the thermostat IP address, the left button will have the abort label above it. Once you can press it within 60 seconds it will fall back to an ip address of 169.254.111.111. Once the thermostat is at that IP address, you can set your pc to the same subnet (169.254.111.x) and get web access to the thermostat’s web server. Then you can access the network settings page and statically assign the IP address that you want. Back to top
